Poetry Essay Assignment & Rubric

Use academic, authoritative sources. I would use the media center resources: Gale & Poetry for Students. You must have an author for your source. Do not use an unknown author or blogs, sparknotes, pinkmonkey, gradesaver, brighthub, wikipedia, enotes, helium, shmoop, etc. When in doubt, look for the credentials of the author or ask me.
I suggest Poetry for Students as a place to start. Use this link OR Gale & EBSCO

Choose wisely. If you can’t write enough about the poem, then you must choose another poem. Make sure your poem has enough research & literary techniques/merit. You may not choose a poem from our class discussion.
"A Psalm of LIfe" by Longfellow “The Chambered Nautilus” by Oliver Wendell Holmes
“Paul Revere’s Ride” by Longfellow “The Song of Hiawatha” by Longfellow
“Evangeline” by Longfellow “Snowbound” by Whittier
The poetry of...Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, William Cullen Bryant, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Other: consider American poetry from the 1840’s-1900’s from well known/published authors.
